ASML manufactures lithography systems, which are critical to the production of microchips.
It might not sound exciting, but microchips are essential components of semiconductors, and semiconductors are the hidden building blocks of a decarbonised economy. Think of them as the brains that link renewable power generation, like wind turbines and transmission to the power grid.
ASML is inside the engine room of the global semiconductor industry, manufacturing and supplying the machines required to produce the microchips that power wind turbines and solar panels. Australia is primed to become a renewable energy superpower, but without semiconductors the transition to net-zero emissions would be a lot more difficult.
It’s not just renewable energy. Semiconductors make the electronic devices that we take for granted possible. Things like computers and mobile phones wouldn’t run without the lithography machines that enable semiconductors to power the global technology sector.
